You can view an overview of a company's takeover defense using Thomson ONE.

  • Type your company's ticker in the top left corner, then click on Corporate Governance in the Company Views menu on the left.
  • Select Takeover Defense.

Note: Thomson ONE only works using Internet Explorer.

For historical takeover defense information, go to WRDS.

  • ​Search the BoardExISS, and MSCI GMI Ratings datasets.

Note: Access to WRDS requires creation of a WRDS account.

Come to Lippincott Library and use FactSet.

  • Type shark repellent in the search bar at the top of the page to navigate to the subset interface. 
  • Click the Takeover Defense Tab at the top of the page, and then click search tab underneath it.
  • Enter desired search criteria and click execute.
  • Click on the Company View tab.

Information specific to poison pills is also available in SDC Platinum, a database available in Lippincott Library (machines 8A and 8B).

  • Choose Corporate Governance, then select poison pills


In WRDS, MSCI (formerly KLD and GMI)- MSCI GMI Ratings and Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS)- Governance datasets include takeover defense data.

Note: WRDS requires a Wharton username and password.
