LSEG Workspace Excel add-in

The LSEG Workspace Excel add-in requires Microsoft Excel (for Windows) and a LSEG Workspace account. To access Datastream:

  1. Create a LSEG Workspace account.
  2. Email lippincott@wharton.upenn.edu to request Datastream access and describe the type of data you plan to use. A Lippincott librarian will confirm when Datastream access has been added to your Workspace account.
    Note: People often request Datastream when the information they want (e.g.: stock prices; financials; analyst reports) is in the regular LSEG Workspace platform. Describing the type of data you plan to use will help ensure you get the access you need and preserve Penn's limited-quantity Datastream accounts.
  3. Download and install the LSEG Workspace for Desktop application. This includes the platform software and the LSEG Workspace Excel add-in.
  4. Open Excel to find the Workspace tab or ribbon menu. Choose Sign In and submit the user ID and password you created when creating your LSEG Workspace account. Access Datastream content using the Datastream section of the Workspace ribbon menu.

The Datastream Formula button (in Excel) offers a good starting starting point for generating data extracts. You'll find many options in the window that opens.

  • Next to Series/Lists, use the filter icon to search for data series.
  • Use the filter icon next to Datatypes/Expressions to choose measures that describe your selected series.

Some Datastream series are available via WRDS (see access details) under LSEG.
