The Fisher Fine Arts Library and Holman Biotech Commons offer the Penn community a 3D scanning service. Scanning sessions are held on the ground floor of the Fine Arts Library in the Materials Library space, and in the Judith and William Bollinger Digitial Fabrication Lab in the Holman Biotech Commons. This is a free service that does not require previous experience to use.
If you are interested in learning if 3D scanning is appropriate for your project or assignment, please complete this request form and ensure there is ample time to coordinate an appointment prior to your project deadline. Staff overseeing the scanners will review all submitted forms and follow up accordingly.
Thank you for your interest in 3D scanning!
Please briefly describe the nature of your project, e.g., what you would like to scan, the approximate size of the object, what it is made of, etc. Learn more about what our scanners can and cannot scan. Please note that we cannot scan more than 10 items per request. If you are looking to scan more than 10 items then repeat scanning sessions will be required over multiple days.
What is the purpose of your project: AR or VR generated environment, 3D print, etc.? What do you want to show on the model? Do you want color included in the scan?
Please add any scheduling notes here, such as requested project timeframe and availability. Unlike other 3D scanners, scanning and processing with the ARTEC scanners can be time consuming. Be sure to allow for at least an hour to an hour and a half following an orientation for scanning. Please note:
Please attach a photo of the object or photos of the objects you want to scan. This will help staff provide feedback about how to best approach your project.
Please ask any questions for staff regarding your request below. Provide additional context for your inquiry using the More Detail/Explanation text box. Type "n/a" if none.
