Penn employees, faculty, staff, and designated affiliates may access Penn Libraries resources and facilities, including the Holman Biotech Commons, based on their Penn affiliation and credentials. Individuals with a PennCard enter the Holman Biotech Commons through the Johnson Pavilion/Hamilton Walk entrance by swiping their PennCard at the security gate. If the card reader is unavailable or their card does not open the gate, library security staff can verify a PennCard or another valid photo ID to manually provide entry to the patron.

Individuals using a UPHS/HUP identification badge without a PennCard need to present their badge to the security guard for access.

Penn affiliates who receive a new or renewed PennCard (and previously had PSOM building access) may need to contact PSOM Security to have building access reactivated. Access privileges associated with PennCards may require renewal when a new card is issued.

Access through the Stemmler Hall lobby entrance is restricted and governed by the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM). Requests for Stemmler entrance privileges or other building access permissions must be routed to the PSOM security office. Penn Libraries, including the Holman Biotech Commons staff, do not manage Stemmler door access or any PennCard access to Holman. PSOM Security Office: 215-898-0196 / 109 Stellar-Chance Laboratories.
