Q. What is the source (provenance) of the data VIVO automatically ingests?
Most data in VIVO comes from FEDS, with photographs coming from the Perelman School of Medicine's public web profiles, and data also coming from PubMed and the Perelman School of Medicine's Departments, Centers, and Institutes database. Email addresses come from the Penn Directory. Whether they display is determined by the directory privacy flag.
PubMed data is used for publications that can be matched up (via explicit data or other means) with FEDS publication records. (This allows us to include information like abstracts that are not kept in FEDS.)
